New Music Monday?

So over this past weekend, I attended a party that had a live band. Although I never quite enjoy parties that dont have DJs because of the whole awkward I don't really know how to dance to this type of music! Gosh I really wish they would just play the cha cha slide(I mean at least that is self explanatory) thing. But I found the music at this one to be particularly amazing! This band that inspired me was in fact the Josh Abbott Band! Their country kick made me immediately fall in love with all of their songs, including Oh Tonight, Taste, and She's Like Texas.  Today, I created my Let it Snow playlist, and those were the first three songs added!
Also while searching for new music to add to my Let it Snow playlist, I found the song Ghosts by The Hundred in the Hands. The song is unlike anything I have really every heard before: a mix of pop, techno, and alternative. The best part of the song is at about 2 and a half minutes and it just makes me want to dance around my room! Anyways...other songs I have added to my playlist today have been:

  1. The Funeral- Band of Horses
  2. Both Sides are Even- The Boxer Rebellion
  3. Gold Guns Girls (Acoustic)- Metric
  4. It's Thunder and It's Lightning- We Were Promised Jetpacks
  5. Something Good Coming- Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers
  6. Rough Cut- The Paper Raincoat
  7. Say it Once- Glass Pear
  8. Love Is- Helen Austin
  9. All the Difference- Red Cortez
  10. Bigger Than Us- White Lies

Day 4: Muffins!

Today I made Strawberry Cheesecake muffins from one of my favorite recipe books! Its only just recently that I have become a baker, and I loved it because I have been so successful with the treats I have made. However today, I was not so lucky! These muffins did not taste quite as good as they looked.  Oh well! I know that this recipe is not for me, I will stick with my Banana Chocolate ones instead!

Day 3: I whip my hair

So sorry that I didn't post this yesterday, but I was busy celebrating my awesome friend's birthday! It was her sixteenth birthday and there was no way that I could miss it! But anyways, as for my efforts in trying new things, yesterday I took on a big challenge: my hair. This is my hair naturally (with the exception of the huge  ponytail crease) and as you can see it is  naturally blah.

On most days when hanging out with my friends, I quickly straighten it and pull one side back with a bobby pin. Lets just say that was getting a little bit old... So I asked for some assistance from my best friend, who has just recently become super talented with hair and braiding! She offered to do something crazy and it turned out pretty interesting! A mixture of french braids, fishtails, and a bun, it was an updo I had never thought to do.

Although it looked cool, I wanted a look that was much more practical for the night. So my best friend took out all the bobby pins, re-brushed my hair, and tried for a more subtle look: two small fishtails into a single fishtail down the back. Once I saw it finished, I immediately loved it! It was definitely something I had never worn before, but I felt so comfortable with it! It was fun, cute, and fresh all at the same time!

By the end of the night, I had gotten many compliments on my new hairstyle. Even though I wanted to keep it in,  I did end up having to take it out later so that I could whip my hair. I mean what it a party without hair whipping??
Overall, I had a great time last night, and I even got to wake up this morning to this gorgeous view.

Day 2: yummm

I've eaten salmon my entire life and I have eaten many things marinated in Teriyaki sauce. I have even heard of Salmon Teriyaki on menus at restaurants. But I have never tried it before tonight! It's not that it sounded bad or unappetizing, its just that it never really appealed to me. As I put each bite into my mouth, I realized just how much I was missing out on! Now, I am so glad that I tried it! My tastes have expanded and I cannot wait to try more delicious foods.

Day 1: A new sense of style

For my first little "experiment" I decided to go through my closet and find an outfit I would normally wear: a dress and black heels. Then, I tried to think about the exact way I wouldn't wear it: same dress made into a skirt with a t-shirt, thigh high socks, and what I call my biker boots. I made myself try it on.

I think it looks different and definitely much more interesting than the original look.  I loved putting together an outfit that I probably would have never worn before, because now I am not afraid to wear it in the future! Although this outfit doesn't completely represent my sense of style, its a great start in discovering that I can be more than what I have always been!

Finding my temporary temple...

I started this blog today as an escape from this busy thing called life. I realized that I was tired of waking up  each day feeling the exact same way, whipping my hair up into that same old ponytail, and listening to those same songs. I felt trapped in the routine of what I have always done and always been.  So I have decided to take on a challenge to try something new everyday, to find more freedom in who I am. Whether it be a new hairstyle, a new restaurant, a new song, or a new outfit, I am going to experiment with what I don't know and what I still need to experience. And don't think that this is something where I will act like someone I am not. I do not want to be emotionally unauthentic. All I expect from this is to discover how to express myself to those around me and find out more about who I  really am. I guess the only way to do that is to just dive straight in and find out exactly what I am not. As far as I am concerned, I am blank slate right now.
